Do people really follow the fashion trends in Vogue, and other such magazines?

I am writing an editorial for my english class on fashion trends, and am wondering how many of you, after reading fashion magazines would really go out and buy the clothing, makeup, etc.

  1. I would if they don't cost that much.
  2. well after reading all of the new mags, honestly ill take some cute accesories and makeup, but actually i really dont follow all those trends, to me those are pretty radical to go out and wear. I might use the trend but tone it down to my style, so its me and not teen vogue. i really dont follow clothing trends. more though i follow the makeup trends a lot more.
  3. yes i do. but I'm not like a slave to fashion or something. i try to incorporate the colors and styles into my style. i also follow makeup trends.
  4. I follow the trends that I like, but definitely not all of them. I at least pull some of the inspiration for how I dress from things I see, magazines being one of them. I can however say that I had one class in school with fashion design and merchandising majors and at least half of them looked like they stepped right out of one of the fashion mags every single day. They even dressed super fashion on yucky rainy and snowy days outside where they were wearing stilettos and everyone one else was in boots! They must have also spent a fortune on clothing! Some of them looked awesome, but no thank you for me!
  5. yes, but maybe not in such an obvious way. because magazines like vogue set the fashion for the next season..Sure the cotour is a bit extreme, and you probably wouldn't walk down the street with a dress made of alpaca hair, but chances are you will see in most stores later that year things like soft fluffy sweaters or scarves, or similar colors or sillhouttes... influences that appeal to a large variety of people. so while our version is not as extreme you still follow the trend in some diluted way....
  6. Nah, I am not going to waste my money on the clothes that they have in magazines. I dress the way that I want to, not the way that society tells me to. The only people who have ever had any personal influence on my fashion have been my sister, mother, father, and cousin. :p I think that the rest of the world is very different, though. As for make-up...I do not buy make-up JUST because I see it in the magazines. If I see something advertised that I think would be a good addition to my routine, I would go out and see how much it is. I prefer to pick my own make-up, though. Also, I do spend more money on eye-liner than the normal person, because wearing the cheap stuff makes my eyes look...horrible. -_- I'm not a big slave to make-up or clothes, though. All of the clothes I spend my own money on, I buy on sale. I only buy expensive make-up when I know that I need it for it look like it should. And! I forgot to mention perfume. Perfume is the -only- thing I've ever really been influenced by magazines to desire. Putting those little smelly samples in there is a great advertising technique, for sure. I don't, however, splurge. I've only ever bought one kind of perfume because of something I smelled on a sample, but they do the job very well! Good luck on the editorial. :)
  7. well, i take inspiration from these looks. i mean, im really into fashion adn i love trying out the hottest trends and stuff, but i dont try to look like a clone or some overdressed model wannabe. i think its way cooler to find a really hot trend thats on the runway and in paris and stuff, wear it before people at school or anywhere know about it really. its really cool cuz you feel like a trendsetter thats stylin and you dont look like everyone else. but to answer your question, yes.
  8. No! haha -A lot of the fashion spreads they have in Teen Vogue...etc. have girls wearing absolutely ridiculous looking outfits. They say it's the newest fashion but please..if I were to wear one of those outfits one day and walk around, people would most likely tell me "Halloween is in a few weeks hun." Good Luck with your editorial! I'm sure it'll be great!
  9. I wouldn't buy things that the feature in magazines like Vogue or Lucky because they are so outrageously expensive, and you'd look weird if you wore them to my school. But magazines such as Seventeen usually feature oufits that I could see my self wearing and sometimes I even buy them. As for make-up, I don't follow magazines at all for that. My make-up advice comes from my friends, and the make-up counter at Sephora. Hope this helped. xoxo
