Is there a way to tell if your jewelry is real gold or costume jewelry? Some kind of test to do at home? I have lots of old jewelry and do not know if it is 'real' gold or not. Can you have a piece of costume jewelry dipped in gold? I have a metal bracelet that was a little cheapie that was given to me. It has since gained great sentimental value. How can you REALLY tell if you have a GENUINE 24K gold piece of jewelry, when it is engraved "24K"? Just curious if there is a way to confirm that, let's say a ring - that has "24K" engraved on the inside - is truly genuine 24K gold, or gold at all? Is fake gold (such as costume jewelry) made to look real enough that 14K, or 18K, or 24K is engraved on it? I didn't think it was permissible, but a friend told me there are makes of fake gold pieces w/these engravings to appear even more like the real thing.

What can I do if somebody sold me a ring that they told me was real but its just fake costume jewelry? Bought a ring off ebay and was told that is was solid 14K gold and genuine stones but it turns out that it is metal and man made stones. Paypal can get my money back for me but I want this guy to get in more trouble than that. Its the whole moral of the thing, ya know. Anybody have any suggestions on whether I can sue this guy or what i can do?????? I dont think they are going to refund me my money.
Would adding a plating of higher karat gold to 10 karat gold make it look cheaper or would it enhance it? I was wondering, would putting a thick plating of, say, 18 karat or higher gold on a piece of 10 karat gold enhance the appearance or is this a bad idea, would it just make an arguably cheap looking (10 karat) piece of gold look even worse, like costume jewelry?

Know anything about opals and gold? Found a ring in a sale. It was sold to me as costume jewelry. It appears to be a gold ring with an opal. Is it possible to have a fake (manufactured) opal, and can a ring be gold if there is no stamp in it (all gold rings I have ever seen, have the karats marked inside). Is the only way to tell is to take it to a jeweler? Thank you.

What are appropriate accessories to wear as a guest to an Indian wedding? I’m going to be attending a traditional Indian wedding in Kerala soon. I borrowed some gorgeous lehengas from an Indian friend to wear to the ceremony, but I’m not sure if I’m accessorizing them correctly. Can someone tell me if the following is appropriate: 1.For one of the lehengas, I bought a traditional gold choker necklace (described as a “polki stone necklace”) from an Indian costume jewelry store online. It’s a cheap bauble, really, but it looks a lot nicer than it costs. It’s sort of dangly and very pretty, but much less ornate than the other stuff I saw on the site. Does this sound like an appropriate choice, or should I stick to Western-styled jewelry? 2.Since my friend’s lehengas are a bit long on me, I’m wearing heeled, somewhat fancy sandals. Is it likely that I will have to take these off during the ceremony? 3.Are gold bangles on each arm (also nice-looking baubles) okay as the only hand/wrist accessories? 4.Do Indian women carry an evening bag or purse when going to formal occasions like weddings? If so, what should I be looking for? 5.This isn’t an accessory question, but I read somewhere that guests shouldn’t wear red, because that is traditionally the bride’s color. Is this correct? One of my lehengas is a gorgeous dark red, so I’m hoping I can still wear it.

Cheap Gold Locket? I wanted to recreate Salazar Slytherin's locket from Harry Potter, much like the one seen on the cover of one version of Deathly Hallows. Does anybody know where I can get a relatively large locket (1-2 inch) for cheap? Just even fakey costume jewelry-y?
will a sterling silver ring turn your finger green? My fiance proposed to me and gave me a beautiful white gold diamond ring. When I went to work to show my co-workers, one girl stuck out her finger to show me how much better her ring was...but her finger was green around where her band was. She told me it was sterling silver, and that it does it all the time.to me it looked like those costume jewelry rings they have at walmart. So, does anyone know if sterling silve really does that?

Allergic reactions to earrings.? Ok so I have two questions, first of all i have been allergic to metal and usually can only buy only gold and silver for earings. But i love costume jewelry and my ears itch and burn when i wear them for too long. How can i wear them, but stop the breaking out. Is it bad that i do this. And my second question is, what makes your finger turn green when you wear fake rings?
Has anyone bought a ring from www.carat.cc? How is the stone quality of the cz? I'd hate to have an 18k white gold ring with a crappy stone. I know it's no diamond but as long as it doesn't look like a costume jewelry from walmart or claires, I'm okay. Thanks! Ps. thanks for your answer Tara. I know Walmart does sell real diamond but I was referring to their "costume jewelry" as in their fake CZ's that are of low quality. I'm not looking for a real diamond ring. More of a cocktail ring, so I'm not going to be able to shell out 15,000 for a 5 carat ring but I don't want it to look horribly cheap either. Just has to be believable enough on a good night out.
Fake diamond necklace? My great grandma gave me a costume-jewelry necklace about a year ago and it looks kind of old, but it's cute. It has a fake diamond on a fake gold chain. How do i make it look new again? Thanx! P.S. I need an answer FAST cuz I'm going to a party in about an hour.
My "best friend" stole a lot of stuff from me, how do I get it back!? My friend Jess slept over last week, from saturday until thursday. My mom and I have many valuables around the house but ever since ive known her shes been very trustworthy and she never stole from anyone. So on thursday when she left, my mom realize she stole A LOT of stuff. They are... at least 3 pairs of earrings, 3 gold necklaces, 3 of my shirts, 3 bottles of bath and body works lotions, 2 costume jewelry necklaces, my headband(s), makeup and some other stuff. I have proof she stole it because she wanted to give me back one of the shirts she stole so I went to pick it up today, unexpectedly. When I knocked on the door, she had my earrings and makeup on. Then she let me stay in her room for a while and the bathroom door was open. So i looked inside and saw EVERYTHING that was missing from my house. I trusted her and now I want NOTHING to do with her. But I want my stuff back! My mom said she'd call her mom to talk about it but her mom might take her side. How do I get my stuff back? And I saw something that was mine so i said, 'THIS IS MINE.' and she said, 'no its not, i went and bought one.' and i said, 'they dont sell them anymore and mine is missing.' and she said, 'thats weird...' and ripped it out of my hands! I want my stuff back D:<. Plus, she took pictures out with the stuff. When I confronted her about it she deleted the picture off of myspace. But I saved it. My mom is waiting for my dad to get home so he can help us out.
Women & Men: If you could create your dream dress or suit, what would it look like....? Ok, if you were going to royal ball or a huge sophisticated party (no alcohol) and you could wear anything you wanted........what would it be? Go ahead.....use all imagination and find some detail within.... Here is mine, I would wear a cream with gold thread broquet fabric dress (this fabric is a little weighty and has almost a slightly embossed or waffled texture from a pattern being stitches into in which creates an elaborate quilted appearance, it makes for a great structured bodice of a gown and a very reagal and timeless look that Grace Kelly might have worn when she was princess or like Jacky Kennedy may have chosen as a cocktail dress or formal. Mmmmmm......love suits made of it too. The gold thread on my particular fabric adds a subtle luster or sparkle and over all.....this single fabric has the appearance of many layers and complexities.... The dress would be structured bodice with as few seams possible, as not to break the visual flow of this complex looking fabric.... It would have a strait across neckline (imagine a tube top but with a fold at the top edge like a sort of lapel across the top edge) there would be 1.5 inch wide straps and the back would have a long and smi narrow opening from the top back to the low back (pretty darn low but not scandalous) On one side of this opening....there are small fabric covered buttons (same broquet fab) they are quite close together like the buttons on a Victorian dress or shoe. These line just one side of the opening (this creates something unexpected as they are not in center back and only on the right side of back, creating a visual draw to one side ) The opening is laced back and forth like a ballet slipper, with creamy colored silk piping trim......The silk is so fine and shiny, It almost looks like is is made of liquid pearl.... The skirt is very full and wavy, and so..... 1950"s, coming just below the knee. Of course it would take about five miles of netting to make this heavy fabric flare out at the skirt (But lets live a little!) It is worth all the trouble to construct it. For shoes...I would wear pearly, Champagne , vinyl strappy criss-cross shoes with a beautiful white diamond and pearl combo vintage costume jewelry earring clipped on the the side of each shoe for a touch of ahhhh....... Mmmmm.....I can see it so clearly in my mind. And if I wanted to really throw the symbolic icing on the cake, And lose the fear of going too far here, I would wear elbow length gloves made of the softest polished cotton that was mostly mat with the ever slightest silken sheen and vintage glass pearl buttons running along side seam (the gloves are pearly white and slightly brighter than the laces on the back of the gown and the pearls lean more to butter or champagne color. In case you had not noticed, I have a passion for fashion that is overwhelming at times :) . But I also have my priorities. I do not live for fashion but I love it! and designing it and putting together fun outfits that express or provoke a thought or emotion or memory of something ....Another time, another place. It is all about how it makes you feel, not where you bought it or whether it has some rich business guys name on it. I have a dress I bought from a souvenir shop in Mexico. just cotton with a halter tie and an embroidered pattern on the waist. Very cultural look. It only cost 20 or 25 dollars and it makes me feel so nice when I wear it. It could have cost a penny and I would love it far more than a shirt for 50 dollars... No matter how casual or fancy.....or inexpensive a piece of fashion, If it makes you feel beautiful and confident and fits your personality and inner beauty, then you will exude Radience and beauty. Less can be more and more can be more....Whichever way you truly love, rock it out from the inside out and never put fashion above who you are. You could wear a sack and be the most beautiful girl in the room or a guy with no inclination towards fashion and still be the most handsome guy in the room because you do not have to look any certain way to feel good and that shows and that is all that you really need in fashion. What you believe and how you feel and who you are. if you are a kind and good person who does not need diamonds and silk or a Rolex or Armani suit to be happy.....Then what else matters when it comes to what to wear? At the end of the day, the clothes mean nothing except that perhaps you get much enjoyment out of expressing yourself through this art form....And I understand that feeling beautiful or handsome brings confidence and that brings joy but stop and think for a moment what it really means to you....If you were in outer Mongolia teaching English to children who would be profoundly effected by your effort to help them....Would they care what you were wearing? would you care? See, thinking about the deepest and most reel things.....makes us remember where fashion belongs on the priority list. Living with that in mind brings real Thank you (Supermodel) and (Tougher than I look) great name by the way....Your dresses sound gorgeous! The reason I went into all that is because I tend to flow with my feelings a lot and I have long wondered if I should love fashion so much cause I also am a minimalistic person with certain values and wishes for society to be less burdened by the superficial side of fashion and beauty and I fight with myself for which side I am on (but gosh! I am both and that's ok ) Life is good and I love fashion! It is more to me than a symbol in society and I can live without it too......but life is more fun with it and it is up to each, how we see and use it. Thanks for making me think about that. Now a realize that I do not have to fight between my love of it and my values....I can have both in balance. Take care!
