How to find info on Antique Costume Brooch? When my grandmother passed away about 6 years ago I was given a brooch of hers. After going through her jewelry my mother and I went to the library and got antique books. Amazed I found the dog brooch in one of them which was worth $100 according to the book. I want to say it was published around '95 but all I did was photo copy the page and didnt take down the information of the book we found it in. I want to see what its worth today but dont know how to go about looking for it. Its like a needle in a hay stack when trying to look through books. And Im finding nothing on the net. I've attached a link to a photo of it for any of you who are familiar with antique costume jewelry. Its a poor picture though. The Item is Sterling Silver and the book called it "Dog Brooch, American Indinian Design, Sterling Silver". The design isnt the same as the book had but the stone eye and design on tail and paws were the same. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y167/fr... http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y167/Free_Fallin_Angel/Picture005.jpg The link didnt work before I've already checked ebay and came up with nothing.
Antique costume jewelry? My mother gave me a beautiful necklace and earring set she bought from an estate sale in Avon, Ohio back in the early 80's. It is squash blossom design and has faux turquoise stones, I believe the chain is silver plated. It is marked (tag on necklace), Emmons, this mark is on both of the earrings. On the other side of mark on necklace has a design - at first I though it was an eye, but with magnifing glass I believe it is a circled E with a crown on top. The research I have done says Emmons added a trademark after 1955, mine doesn't have this trademark. Found a few Emmons catalogs online and found some pieces sorta like mine around in the 70's. Any and all help would be appreciated. Not interested in selling, just would like to know what year this was produced. The link below will take you to photobucket where I have uploaded a picture of my necklace and earring set. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b127/Sheilovealways/answers/0001112222.jpg
How to clean old acrylic costume jewelry? oh, what a score i found at the antique store! old acrylic (lucite, bakelite?) strung necklaces & bracelets, funky earrings, and a TON of plastic bangles. So much is so very lovely and i'm just itching to make things out of it, but lots of it is dirty, with a sticky dust like film on it. anyone know how i can clean the film of without damaging the beads that seem to be painted acrylic? they're so lovely and light weight, perfect for chunky bracelets and earrings, but i'm scared i'll destroy them :( any advice?
Cheap vintage/costume jewelry in Kitchener/Waterloo/Guelph/Cambridge/Toronto areas? Hey :) I want to expand my accessories, but I HATE buying crap from places in the mall - it costs a ton and falls apart in a week! Does anyone know of any good places to find CHEAP vintage/antique/hippy/bohemian/costume etc. style jewelry? You know, the old stuff that has been around for a while and actually PROVED that it won't break!! My style is a bit bohemian, yet with a more fitted/flattering type of direction... bright red hair, pale skin, blue eyes.... etc. Just wondering if any one knows of any great places to find cheap, old but well-made jewelry. Thanks!
Real/Fake Jewelry-- How to tell? I bought a lot of antique jewelry at an auction. Some appears to be real, some definitely fake/costume. However, there are a few pieces where it is honestly hard to tell. They may be real or good quality fakes. How can I tell? If I take it to a jewelry store, will they be able to tell? Will they charge me for the assessment? I don't care if it is real or not because I like it, but if it is real, it probably needs to be insured. Thanks for all help.
