Would adding a plating of higher karat gold to 10 karat gold make it look cheaper or would it enhance it? I was wondering, would putting a thick plating of, say, 18 karat or higher gold on a piece of 10 karat gold enhance the appearance or is this a bad idea, would it just make an arguably cheap looking (10 karat) piece of gold look even worse, like costume jewelry?

How much would you pay...? I've been making various styles of jewelry, costume accessories, festival masks and actual costumes for a while now, and have begun planning to sell them, or take commissioned requests for things such as these. I want to know how much people would be willing to pay for this type of stuff. The jewelry I make is mostly leather, hemp, chain maile, earrings, hair pieces. The masks are made for cosplaying, or by commissioned request. Costume accessories like cat ears, tails, various other bits. And the whole costumes are done by commission only. So how much would you be willing to pay for any of these things? Would you say price would be based on size, or style? Or maybe the time that went into the detail? (And please keep it realistic; good leather is not that cheap, nor is anything else nowadays.)

A black short knit dress w/elastic around the breast and the straps r also elastic. In addition, I have a shawl with sleeves that is dark purple, w/ black beads hanging from the sleeves. thigh high fishnet stockings that r supposed to stay up but don’t. anyway I can get them to stay up? I also have a garter. my wig is long; the right side is purple and the other black. Aquamarine engagement ring: fear of judgement? My fiance and I are finally getting around to picking out my engagement ring (he proposed with a piece of costume jewelry with the intention of the two of us going to pick the actual ring out). For a few reasons, I've decided I want an aquamarine stone. Generally, I'm a traditionalist, but I really like this ring and would love to have it as my engagement. I mentioned this at a family dinner, and got nothing but negative feedback. My mother said it was something I'd surely regret and that it's very tacky. My brother said it really makes my fiance look cheap. My future sister-in-law said that she's having a full carat diamond, and that any other stone should be used for an aniversary--and that it really looks bad on my fiance. I really hate the tradition of showing off your ring as some kind of badge. Do you think it's true that he'll look cheap? What do I say to their harsh judgements?
